“Why did I start a business? I have to help my kids with their homework!”
“I’m not a fashionista and I just launched a handbag company. People are going to realize I’m a fake.”
“Can you start a social movement if you aren’t a millennial?”
I wish it wasn’t so, but this and many, many other “not-so-helpful” thoughts run through my mind on a regular basis, every moment, of every day. But, rather than just shooing away these thoughts like annoying flies, I breathe and say, “This mission is bigger than me. I can’t let my insecurities get in the way of saving lives.”
Being an entrepreneur can be daunting on its own. Add to that being a mom of two young children, one with special needs, and my own personal health challenges (I’m a cancer survivor and in this first six months of business I’ve had three major surgeries) - yet still, nothing I’ve faced can compare to having a loved one senselessly killed by gun violence. It’s through my work in generating awareness about this mission that keeps me going. It’s the idea that I can have a positive impact on peoples’ lives and make it easy for others to do the same with just a simple purchase.
My personal entrepreneur journey will not look like anyone else’s, yet this is not a solo mission. And this is my current challenge - being vulnerable, exposed even and asking others for help. I even took this picture myself…it took several takes, to say the least.
I know that there are many lessons to learn and even more times of doubt and despair, but this is the entrepreneur journey that I feel lucky to be on - no matter what life throws at me, I am just so grateful to be alive and experiencing all life has in store for me.
Clear Unity Bags would not be in existence if it weren't for the need for change. But, change is what we need. Doing nothing is not an option. It's time to save lives and make it easy for others to do so too. Learning to stop the bleeding after a mass shooting incident is the easiest, least divisive and proven way to immediately save lives. Our clear bags are a part of this movement. Because, what's the point of a clear bag if it doesn't actually save lives?
A few weeks ago, after many late nights at the computer shaking my head and saying, “this is not a one-person-job” - I finally asked for help. Lucky for me a wonderful friend and neighbor has joined me on this crazy journey. Whew!
We are excited to launch our newest product, “The Clear” Backpack - sure to be a crowd favorite as clear bag policies are popping up in schools across the nation. In addition, we are thrilled to be partnering with successful boutiques that are inspired by our mission. Everyday we get more and more dedicated followers that want to join our movement. We are movin’ on up!
Join us and let’s save lives together.
